Should I repair or replace my AC?

When repair costs start approaching the value of an older, less efficient unit, replacement usually pays off. We’ll give you both options honestly.

What affects the cost of a new central air conditioner?

The main factors are the system size your home needs, the efficiency level (SEER2), single-stage versus two-stage or variable-speed equipment, whether the indoor coil and refrigerant lines need replacement, and any ductwork or electrical changes. A written quote should list each of these.

What is the minimum efficiency for a new air conditioner in Minnesota?

Minnesota is in the U.S. Department of Energy's North region, where split-system central air conditioners must meet at least 13.4 SEER2. Many systems are available above that minimum.

Is there still a federal tax credit for a new air conditioner?

No. The IRS states the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit does not apply to equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. Ask your electric utility about any current rebates, and ask us about financing options.
